Official Polygraph Examiners Training

Official training courses for polygraph examiners are offered at a state higher education institution and include the issuance of a state-issued certificate.

The Ukrainian Association of Polygraph Examiners (UAPE) has held polygraph examiner courses regularly since 2015. In the course of training polygraph examiners, UAPE strictly adheres to a set of principles, thanks to which our public organization has become a leader in the profession, and the UAPE Polygraph Examiners Training School has become a recognized Ukrainian brand.

Training Principles

Principle №1: UAPE Provides Official Polygraph Examiners Training at a State University and Issues State-Recognized Certificates

The UAPE Polygraph Examiners Courses have been conducted exclusively in cooperation with and on the premises of a state higher education institution of the 4th level of accreditation — the I.I. Mechnikov Odesa National University.

Upon completion of the training, our graduates receive a state-recognized certificate of polygraph examiner qualification, thereby eliminating any educational obstacles to employment.

Throughout more than 10 years of cooperation between UAPE and the I.I. Mechnikov Odesa National University, the certificates issued by this institution have gained prestige and signify a high level of training quality for polygraph examiners.

Please note that we do not admit individuals without higher education to our training programs.

Principle №2: All UAPE Polygraph Examiners Course Instructors Are Practicing Specialists

The training of polygraph examiners at UAPE is conducted by instructors who are themselves practicing polygraph examiners, forensic polygraph experts, and successful owners of polygraph businesses.

Only at the UAPE Polygraph Examiners Courses do instructors answer students’ questions by demonstrating real, up-to-date polygrams.

Society, living conditions, and business practices are constantly changing, but the knowledge provided in UAPE polygraph examiner courses remains consistently modern and relevant.

Principle №3: When training polygraph examiners, the UAPE firmly rejects dry theory

Dry theory has no place in UAPE polygraph examiner training courses: from the very first week, all sessions are practice-oriented.

During training, information is delivered in clear and accessible language. Students acquire professional terminology naturally, without rote memorization.

Training at UAPE is interesting and engaging – we love and know how to teach adults, and we do so consistently with proven success.

Principle №4: Everything taught at the UAPE’s polygraph examiner courses is published in official and publicly available printed sources

The instructors of the UAPE’s polygraph examiner courses are the authors of official training manuals, an atlas of polygrams, the first Ukrainian textbook “Polygraphology,” the first and only monograph, and numerous scientific articles in the profession.

Our educational publications for polygraph examiners rank among the top professional literature and have already become bestsellers.

The UAPE’s polygraph examiner courses do not teach using “self-published” materials or reprints of dubious origin. When conducting professional activities, graduates of the UAPE’s polygraph examiner courses, when necessary, refer to the works of their instructors, which, in accordance with existing requirements, are stored in leading state Ukrainian libraries.

Principle №5: Training at VAP polygraph examiner courses is exclusively full-time.

Unlike dishonest businessmen who are only interested in making money and churn out “part-time polygraph examiners” whose low level of training threatens the very existence of our profession, the VAP has never trained polygraph examiners remotely (online).
Our principled approach to the quality of polygraph examiner training has been supported by the professional community and customers of polygraph services.
From January 6, 2026, in accordance with the requirements of the professional standard “Polygraph Examiner” (code 2490 in the Register of the National Agency for Qualifications), any offers of distance (online) training of polygraph examiners based on MAUP, KAI, or other educational institutions are fraudulent.
Legal, official training of polygraph examiners is carried out exclusively in person and at a higher education institution. This is how it has been done by the VAP since 2015.

Principle №6: UAPE polygraph examiner courses develop confident polygraph operation skills

The technical foundation of UAPE training is based on certified polygraph instruments that comply with DSTU(State Standard of Ukraine) 8692:2016 — including Ukrainian-made Rubicon polygraphs and U.S.-made Axciton systems.

We dedicate seven full training days exclusively to hands-on polygraph operation. In addition, students work with polygraph instruments while completing homework assignments, all of which are reviewed by an instructor. This approach allows trainees to bring their movements to automatism and achieve intuitive understanding of the software.

Before completing the course, students must pass a practical skills assessment, during which they demonstrate their ability to record high-quality polygrams and identify objects — such as a selected item or banknote that their examinee has chosen or hidden — through a real-time examination.

Principle №7: The UAPE’s polygraph examiner courses develop the ability to write test questionnaires

We do not simply explain how to write a questionnaire; we genuinely teach it: at the UAPE’s polygraph examiner courses, while completing homework assignments, students write at least nine test questionnaires across all existing areas in polygraphology.

No other polygraph examiner courses require their students to write and have their instructors check such a number of test questionnaires.

Our students write tests designed for use in the detection and investigation of crimes (murder, infliction of grievous bodily harm); in conducting internal investigations (theft of material and technical assets, disclosure of confidential information, cooperation with undesirable categories of individuals); on private matters, including marital infidelity; and in conducting screening (hiring, periodic checks, pre-dismissal checks).

All homework assignments are checked by the instructor on an individual basis, and each student receives feedback regarding the advantages and disadvantages of their completed work.

Thanks to this thorough training, UAPE graduates are able to quickly adapt or refine their test materials during live examinations — a distinct advantage over graduates of other programs.

Principle №8: Support for graduates of the UAPE’s polygraph examiner courses after graduation

In accordance with the agreement signed prior to enrollment in the training group, graduates of the UAPE’s polygraph examiner courses are provided with mandatory support for at least six months after graduation. However, in reality, this support is indefinite – we do not refuse our students when they seek assistance: no matter where in the world they may be, if they need advice or consultation, they will receive it.

Graduates have the opportunity to automatically join the UAPE and become part of Ukraine’s largest friendly and welcoming professional community of polygraph examiners.

Another key benefit is access to the UAPE group chat, where they can always receive professional advice from experienced colleagues, read about someone’s interesting testing case, and share their own, etc.

Principle №9: The organizers of the UAPE’s polygraph examiner courses are truthful

We do not lure or deceive prospective students. We do not distort information or present it in a manipulative manner. We are convinced that deception is not marketing; deception is always simply deception.

We do not view our students solely as a source of income: in each student of the UAPE’s polygraph examiner courses, we see a future professional who has come to us to become a competent polygraph examiner and earn a respectable income through this interesting profession.

Principle №10: The UAPE Polygraph Examiners Course is, above all, about quality in every part of the training process

More than 10 years ago, we set a high standard for polygraph examiner training, and since then, we have only raised it further.

If you’ve decided to become a professional polygraph examiner — UAPE is the place for you!
