The profession of a polygraph examiner is fascinating, not least because there is no room for routine. Every examinee is a unique world. A standard screening can turn out to be anything but standard – especially when the person being tested is a seasoned bribe-taker with moral atelia, or a traitor convinced of their righteousness.
The scenarios behind some internal investigations or infidelity checks could easily rival the plots of detective novels or TV series.
As in any profession, the quality of one’s foundational education and regular professional development – along with strict adherence to official methodology – play a key role in polygraphy.
For instance, if a physiological reaction is recorded for only 5–8 seconds instead of the 15 seconds prescribed by the methodology, the examiner may simply fail to capture and analyze the full range of the subject’s internal emotional responses – and the most revealing moments might go unnoticed.
We take pride in the fact that polygraph examiner training through the Ukrainian Association of Polygraph Examiners (UAPA) has, for over 10 years, consistently been delivered at the highest professional level.
Thanks to this standard of excellence, UAPA course graduates enter the field with a high professional bar already set.
Later, in practice, they not only strengthen the development of Ukrainian polygraphy, but also generously share their knowledge and experience with colleagues.
We are pleased to present the speech by Antonina Sabelnykova, Head of the UAPA’s Zakarpattia Regional Office, delivered at the 8th UAPA Scientific and Practical Conference, held in November 2024.
